Runes in Diablo 3

Initially, a small excursion into history. Runes appear in Diablo 2 LoD – they were items that can be inserted in the socket armor and weapons. Beside the properties that give the runes can be collected some runewords, and receive a special set of properties.

In Diablo 3 on such a concept rejected (though can still beat a hundred times). Now, runes are not things improve, but … Skills (Skills)!

With the change to skills is not easy – a little harder to beat, or more range, but mostly skill varies dramatically. Examples of changes in skills a little further, but for now consider the types of runes, there are 5 types: Crimson, Indigo, Obsidian, Golden, Alabaster.

The same runes are divided into grades, with 7 levels of “coolness” of runes, the first 3 levels will meet the players on the complexity of Hormal, 4,5 levels of the runes will meet on a Nightmare and the last, 6 and 7 levels of complexity in Hell.

The developers have confirmed that Mystery (one of kravterov in the game) will be able to create and improve the runes, although there is no specificity in this process.

What is known
Each city will have its own, unique arena
In all arenas will be obstacles, allowing to hide from the attacks (in the video below, these obstacles are the stone pillars).

Demon Hunter is the Fifth Class in Diablo 3Just moments ago at  BlizzCon 2010, Chris Metzen announced the fifth and final playable class in Diablo 3. Finishing off the list of available characters that includes: Barbarian, Monk, Witch Doctor & Wizard, is the…Demon HunterThe Demon Hunter looks to be a class that deals damage from distance, utilizing a combination of ranged weapons and explosives to dispatch her enemies. In the official trailer she can be seen dual wielding pistol crossbows, firing a variety of different shots; including multi-target and fiery arrow projectiles. At one point she whips out a large crossbow and fires a bola at her target, which then explodes just after it wraps itself around the demon’s throat.

Right now it appears that most of the Demon Hunter’s damage comes by way of ranged weapons, as well as a variety of explosive devices. She can also be seen using a sort of “Fan of Knives” AE ability in one of the gameplay screenshots, along with some type of other short range attack, which she uses to break through a door in the gameplay trailer.

This is all that’s known about her at this time, but the Demon Hunter looks to be a very exciting class.

Demon Hunter Concept

The Demon Hunter was actually one of the first classes that they settled upon for Diablo 3. She began as a Woodland ranger, but then took a darker turn. Blizz wanted a counter to the monk – something dark and gothic. They then came up with a revenge-fueled anti-hero, who will use any means necessary to dispose of her adversaries.

Her primary means of of damage are: ranged weapons, gadgets, traps and shadow magic. Some of her abilities and gadgetry include: multi-shot, exploding bolas, grenades, spike traps , and vault – a shadowy acrobatic skill used to maneuver quickly in battle.

The Wizard

The Wizard
WizardSimply put, the Wizard is the new mega-mage. Bringing to the table blasts from multiple pasts plus his/her own qualities and abilities, the character borrows skills from Diablo II and classic roleplaying games. Blizzard introduced the Wizard in lore and trailer as a female charater, referencing the class’ strong connection with the ways of the Sorceress, while the male version neatly ties it back with the original Sorcerer from the original game.Certainly, the Wizard’s gameplay style and skill set come from the Sorceress. Rebellious and agile in nature, the class does best to sneak around on light feet, away from deadly melee action that quickly lands him/her in trouble. Rather than building a buffer of minions like the Necromancer, this class relies on its killer spells to fend off nasties. Classics like Charged Bolt (now Static Charge) and Chain Lightning (now Electrocute) return, but as part of the new Storm skill tree that also includes cold skills like the new Frost Nova.The Wizard also takes on a selection of Druid and Assassin abilities. Cyclone becomes the new Energy Twister, for example. Making it more useful and interesting, Teleport comes with a short delay attached, but effectively becomes the Assassin’s Dragon Flight when enhanced with a striking rune. A role-playing classic spell, Magic Missile, finds its way to the game with just the same name.Like the class’ predecessors, the Wizard runs clean of mana in little time when using his/her powerful skills. Automatic mana regeneration is supplemented by the class’ own skill for finding Mana Orbs, much like Health Orbs, one that may prove essential despite its limited usability. Owing to my lack of tolerance for those who would use magic towards their own nefarious ends, many have assumed that I am averse to the practice of the magical arts on a philosophical level. Nothing could be farther from the truth. My quarrel is with those sorcerers who dismiss the ancient traditions and teachings – teachings that have been honed over millennia in order to preserve respect for authority and the rule of law.Recently the youth of Caldeum have fallen prey to the overblown stories of just such a delinquent wizard. That is correct: I used the uncouth term wizard, not sorcerer. It seems that even the title of a civilized magic wielder is too restrictive for this young upstart. Through my contacts at the Yshari Sanctum of the mage clans, I am one of the few who actually know the truth behind the rumors now sweeping our streets regarding this hellion who flaunts her magic irresponsibly.This wizard was sent here to spend her formative years under the tutelage of the best mages in the world. Well, it seems they neglected to teach our wizard manners on her native island of Xiansai, for she was a rude and uncooperative student from the very beginning. Originally under the guidance of the Zann Esu mage clan, she was eventually handed over to the Vizjerei in the hopes that their strict and unbending discipline would break her anarchic spirit. Yet even the esteemed Vizjerei instructors were unable to rein her in. She was continually being caught seeking out dangerous and forbidden magics, heedless of the consequences to herself or anyone around her.Although there is no truth to the tales that she actually ventured into the infamous Bitter Depths below the Sanctum, she was caught in the Ancient Repositories, where the most dangerous incantations are housed for the safety of the public. When confronted by the great Vizjerei mage Valthek and demanded to account for herself, she brazenly attacked him rather than face the punishment merited by her acts. Exaggerated stories of the battle are already being inflated to mythic proportions by the more rebellious of our city’s youth, but suffice it to say that she did not actually best Yshari’s most powerful mage in single, honorable combat. The details of the encounter remain unclear, as Valthek has yet to regain consciousness, but it has been verified by reliable sources that she relied on trickery and deceit to bring the great man low. I have also been assured that the extensive property damage was chiefly the result of Valthek’s magical prowess, not the upstart wizard’s. As to where she is now, no one rightly knows, for she fled the city immediately after the encounter.It is not my goal to alarm, but I find this situation disturbing. We now have a rebellious wizard, young and inexperienced, wandering the world, dabbling in powerful magics she does not understand. Those wiser than you or I determined long ago that certain schools of magic were too dangerous and forbade their practice. It is those magics that this wizard seems determined to explore – magics centered on manipulating the primal forces from which reality is constructed. Imagine, a headstrong nineteen-year-old youth, able to warp time itself to her will! The thought is truly terrifying. It is my honest hope that this self-styled wizard chooses never to return to Caldeum.

The Witch Doctor

The Witch Doctor
Witch DoctorThe Witch Doctor is a completely new character class in Diablo III, never before seen in the first two games and new in the game’s lore as well. Oriented far more toward ranged attacks and the use of summonable creatures, this class originates from tribes hidden in the marshlands south of Kurast. S/he comes with spells in the form of Voodoo, Spirit, and Zombie Spells.

Especially through the Witch Doctor’s weaker stance in melee combat and some specific skills, this new class bears a few similarities to the Necromancer from Diablo II. Confuse is now Mass Confusion, Bone Wall is now a less permanent Wall of Zombies, and Terror is now Horrify. Summonable creatures supplement these curses, such as the Zombie Dog, a four-legged creature that can be equated to a couple summoned skeletons. New spells like Locust Swarm deal disease damage, calling back to poison-based skills.

Though s/he shares similarities with the Necromancer class from the previous game especially, and to a lesser extent the Druid and Sorceress, the Witch Doctor has some distinctive characteristics as well. Some spells are cast from the current position of the Witch Doctor, offering a faster casting option than right-clicking on a visible area while also potentially landing the character in proximity to danger. Summoned pets like the Zombie Dog can be exploded to deal additional damage to nearby enemies, while also eliminating the pet itself.

Most believe the fearsome witch doctor of the umbaru race a legend, but I have seen one in battle with my own eyes. And it was difficult to believe, even then. He dispatched his opponent with terrifying precision, assaulting his victim’s mind and body with elixirs and powders that evoked fires, explosions, and poisonous spirits. As if these assaults were not enough, the witch doctor also had at his command the ability to summon undead creatures from the netherworld to rend the flesh from his enemy’s body.I came upon this rare display as I ventured deep into the interior of the dense Torajan jungles that cover the southern tip of the great eastern continent, in the vast area known as the Teganze, with the goal of seeking out the tribes that reside there. This area is extremely secluded, and heretofore unseen by foreign eyes. I was fortunate to befriend the witch doctor I saw in battle, and, through him, his tribe: the Tribe of the Five Hills.

The culture of the umbaru of the lower Teganze is fascinating and perplexing to those hailing from more civilized walks of life. For instance, the Tribe of the Five Hills frequently engages in tribal warfare with both the Clan of the Seven Stones and the Tribe of the Clouded Valley, but these are matters of ritual and not of conquest. I had heard tales that these wars are waged in order that the victors may replenish their supply of raw materials for the human sacrifices that their civilization revolves around, and when I timidly asked my hosts more about this topic, I must admit their laughter made me fear for my safety. However, through stumbled attempts at communication of such complex topics as what constitutes heroism and honor in their society, I gathered that only those taken in battle are considered worthy of the ritual sacrifice, much to my relief.

Upon further discussions with my hosts, I discovered that these tribes define themselves by their belief in the Mbwiru Eikura, which roughly translates to “The Unformed Land” (this is an imprecise translation, as this concept is completely foreign to our culture and language). This belief holds that the true, sacred reality is veiled behind the physical one we normally experience. Their vitally important public ceremonies are centered upon sacrifices to the life force that flows from their gods, who inhabit the Unformed Land, into this lesser physical realm.

The witch doctors are finely attuned to this Unformed Land and are able to train their minds to perceive this reality through a combination of rituals and the use of selected roots and herbs found in the jungles. They call the state in which they interact with this other world the Ghost Trance.

Alongside the primacy of the belief in the life force and the Unformed Land, the second most sacred belief of the tribes is their philosophy of self-sacrifice and non-individuality, of suppressing one’s self-interest for the good of the tribe. This idea, so foreign to our culture, struck me as something I wished to delve into much more deeply.

Unfortunately, there was intense social upheaval among the tribes due to an incident involving their most current war (inasmuch as I could discern in the ensuing bedlam), and the charged atmosphere warranted my quick departure before I could ask anything further of my hosts.
